Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has backed his team-mate Dejan Lovren and the Slovakian feels that the Reds’ summer signing will come good once he finds his feet in his new team.

Lovren landed at Liverpool in the summer from Southampton after an outstanding inaugural season in the Premier League with the Saints. His displays saw Brendan Rodgers bring the Croat to Anfield for £20m.

The 25-year-old initially failed to replicate last season’s form with his new team and made a number of costly mistakes to undermine Liverpool’s defence. He lost his first team status as a result, but since his return, he seems to be hitting his stride.

Lovren’s defensive partner, Skrtel, is pleased to see the Croatia international finding his feet for the Reds.

“I was glad for him because he's a nice guy. I talk to him a lot, he's my neighbour and I'm glad he's getting to the form that he was in at Southampton”, Skrtel told the club site.

The Slovak, who has been at Liverpool since 2008, added that it is not easy for any newcomer to settle at a club of Liverpool’s stature with ease, and Lovren is no different.

“It is not easy to come to a club like Liverpool, because it's a big club and expectations are very high.

“It is not easy to come in and perform well from the first day until the last.”

Skrtel feels that Lovren has started showing his quality and it is just a matter of time before the Croat reaches his peak for the Reds.

“I believe Dejan will perform well.

“He is showing his quality every day in training and also in the games he has played.

“I just hope he will carry on this way until the end of the season.”
