Valencia executive president Amadeo Salvo has stressed that the club will stand firm if Real Madrid come knocking on the door for their young full-back Jose Luis Gaya in the summer.

Schooled at Valencia’s youth academy, the youngster has established himself as one of the mainstays of Nuno Santo’s first team, with assured performances at left-back.

His consistent performances in the top flight of Spanish football have naturally attracted the attention of Spanish giants Real Madrid, who are always on the lookout for young talents in their home country.

However, Valencia are desperate not to lose one of their most prized assets and are set to offer a new contract to Gaya, which is expected to increase his salary by ten times, making him one of the top three earners at the Mestalla.

Though not disclosing the terms of the proposed agreement, Salvo revealed that they are trying to sign the youngster on a new lucrative contract as they believe in him. He also added that the discussions so far have been positive and both the player and the club are keen to extend their association.

"We’re making a huge effort with Gaya because we feel he’s worth it”, Salvo told the club’s official radio channel.

“He’s a player with a fantastic future. Both sides are happy and want to reach this agreement."

Salvo also stressed that Valencia are set to stand firm to protect their prized asset if Real Madrid make their move for the 19-year-old in the summer.

"When Madrid knock on your door every day with the same story it’s time to set a marker."

Gaya has made 26 appearances for Valencia this season and has also earned three caps for the Spanish Under-21 side.
