Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is eyeing a summer move for Arsenal and Manchester United-linked Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani – and has already started putting in the legwork on a bid.

In the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the PSG side, the Uruguayan has often played second fiddle to him and has often been shunted out to the wings to accommodate the Swedish superstar, seeing his goal rate suffer in return.

The forward is believed to be tired of being shunted around in the team to accommodate Ibrahimovic and is rumoured to be keen to leave the club in the summer.

The English duo of Manchester United and Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the situation at the Parc des Princes and are believed to be ready to make a move for him at the end of the season. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was forced to deny having tabled a big-money bid in January.

However, Atletico Madrid have now entered the race for the Uruguayan international and according to L’Equipe, Simeone is interested in recruiting Cavani in the summer.

It has been claimed that the Argentine tactician has held talks with the player already, through Diego Godin, the Atletico Madrid skipper and the striker's countryman, and a switch for Cavani to the Vicente Calderon has been discussed.

Atletico Madrid are aware of the high costs involved in any potential deal to sign Cavani, but they are still hoping a deal can be done to take the Uruguayan to Spain.
