Feyenoord want to pair John Guidetti and Dirk Kuyt together to spearhead their attack next season in the Eredivisie.

Kuyt is quitting current club Fenerbahce at the end of his contract in the summer and is expected to return to Feyenoord, where he is a cult hero due to a highly successful spell with the Rotterdam club between 2003 and 2006.

Feyenoord are aiming to pair the former Liverpool striker up with another club cult hero in the shape of Guidetti, according to Dutch daily De Telegraaf.

The Dutch side's technical director Martin van Geel was in Scotland at the weekend to chase down Guidetti, who currently turns out for Celtic.

Guidetti is on a season-long loan at Celtic from Manchester City, but his contract with the English side expires in the summer.

Now Feyenoord are dreaming of a Kuyt-Guidetti partnership to strike fear into the hearts of opposing defences, while capturing the pair would also represent only a limited financial outlay.

Feyenoord pondered moving for Guidetti last summer, but were concerned about the striker's fitness due to a long injury layoff.

The Rotterdam side are now planning to watch Guidetti week in, week out, as they seek to determine whether he is fully fit.
