Inter Milan are set to enter the race for highly-rated Genoa goalkeeper and Liverpool target Mattia Perin.

The young Italian custodian has been attracting prying eyes towards himself with assured performances between the sticks for Genoa and is considered the long term successor to Gianluigi Buffon in the Italy national team.

Liverpool have been tracking the youngster’s progress in Serie A since last year and though Simon Mignolet’s return to form has calmed the nerves at Anfield, the club are still keeping a close eye on Perin.

It has been speculated that Brendan Rodgers is pondering over a summer move for the goalkeeper, but Liverpool will have competition from Inter for the young shot-stopper, according to Italian daily Leggo.

Perin’s stock has risen in Italy in recent months and the Nerazzurri are keen to snap up the youngster from Genoa in the summer as a replacement for Samir Handanovic, who they are looking to offload at the end of the season.

It has also been claimed that Perin rejected an offer from Bayern Munich to become Manuel Neuer’s understudy at the Allianz Arena last year and has so far remained non-committal about the speculation surrounding his future.
