Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is not too keen on the idea of Harry Kane representing the England Under-21 side in European Under-21 Championship this summer.

Former England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce has said that England do not give themselves a chance of competing in the tournament because they are not allowed to select the best Under-21 players from the country.

It seems his successor Gareth Southgate might also have to face the same problem after Pochettino revealed that he is not too keen on Kane playing for England Under-21s this summer in the Czech Republic.

The forward has been in fine form for Tottenham this season, scoring 24 times and is also expected to be in Roy Hodgson’s England squad to face Lithuania and Italy later this month.

However, the player has already played 39 times this season for Spurs and Pochettino wants Kane to have good long break in the summer to recharge his batteries for next season.

The Argentine understands the club’s commitment towards the national team, but he stressed that he is also trying to protect Tottenham’s interests when asking for a break for their prolific striker.

"Maybe I would prefer that Harry has a month's holiday after the season to rest and recover his body and mind", Pochettino was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"We need to arrive at a deal with the player and the FA.

"This is my opinion, but I realise we need to support the national team and to take the best decision for us all. This is our concern – he is our player.

"The FA need the player to play but at the same time they are concerned about the development of their own young talent."

Hodgson has said previously that he will encourage his young players to play in the European Under-21 Championship this summer in order that they can gain tournament experience.
