Chelsea midfielder Ramires has revealed that following their League Cup win on Sunday, his team started training in earnest for their next Premier League fixture against West Ham United the very next day.

The Blues won the League Cup after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final at Wembley on Sunday. And they are due to take on the Hammers at the Boleyn Ground tonight, where a win for Jose Mourinho’s side would see them strengthen their position at the top of the table.

Ramires, who has made 16 Premier League appearances this season so far, has revealed that the league title was on their minds and not celebrations following Sunday’s triumph.

“When I came into training on Monday, the focus was already on the game against West Ham”, the Brazilian told the club site.

“Obviously there was still a bit of euphoria, but not as much as on Sunday, because we are all aware of the importance of tonight”, he explained.

After their triumphant League Cup campaign, Chelsea are on course for a successful run in the Premier League and are well positioned to advance to the quarter-final of the Champions League following their away goals against Paris Saint-Germain in their round of 16 away leg last month.

And with a number of important matches coming thick and fast in Chelsea’s schedule, the 27-year-old said that they do not have time to celebrate for now and their focus, for now, remains on West Ham.

“We have so many big games with one on top of the other and it’s difficult to look beyond the next one.

“Hopefully, later in the season there will be plenty of time for celebrations if we achieve our targets, but for now our focus is only on West Ham and getting the three points away from home.”
