Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason is elated after scoring his fist Premier League goal for the Lilywhites against Swansea City last night.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side defeated Swansea 3-2 in their Premier League fixture at White Hart Lane yesterday and Mason played his part in the win by scoring Spurs’ second goal in the 51st minute of the game.

Mason was on the fringes of first team action at the north London outfit prior to the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino as club manager in the summer. But he has fitted seamlessly into the Argentine’s midfield having made 20 league appearances so far.

The Englishman’s assured presence in central midfield has seen Spurs extend his contract at the club until June 2020.

The 23-year-old expressed his delight after getting on the scoresheet for the first time in the Premier League for the Lilywhites; he admitted that it took a long time coming, and insisted that his first strike is “special.”

“It’s a special goal, my first Premier League goal and I’m buzzing”, Mason told the club channel Spurs TV.

“I’ve been waiting a long time for that and I’m over the moon to finally get it and to help us take three vital points is even better.”

Talking about the match, Mason added that Ki Sung-yeung’s goal, which put Swansea level in the 19th minute, made things difficult for the hosts. But a half-time talk by the manager spurred the Londoners to win.

“Their first goal was a bit of a kick in the teeth, but we’ve got character in this team.

“The gaffer made a few points where he wanted us to improve from the first half and that made an impact.”

The win sees Tottenham sit seventh in the table, six points behind fourth placed Manchester United, as Pochettino’s side look to seal a spot in next season’s Champions League.
