Louis van Gaal has blasted talk that he has an uneasy relationship with his assistant at Manchester United, Ryan Giggs, vowing to take the stories up with the media.

It has been suggested that Giggs and Van Gaal do not see eye to eye; the Welshman is a Manchester United legend and served as caretaker manager late last season after David Moyes was sacked.

Van Gaal is unhappy with reports all is not well though and claims he has a very good relationship with his assistant.

The Dutchman joked to a press conference this afternoon: "I cannot answer that. We have a very bad relationship."

But answering the question in a more serious manner, Van Gaal said: "I’m very irritated by this question

"We have a very good relationship, everyone can see that we work very hard together, and that goes for all the staff and players.

"I think it’s a way of suggesting things, so I’m very irritated. I’ll take this up with the media, I’m not pleased."

Van Gaal regularly has Giggs prepare and deliver reports on opposing teams and has on several occasions this season commended the Welshman on his work, especially prior to Manchester United's clash against Liverpool last year.

Giggs has been mooted as a possible successor to Van Gaal when the Dutchman finishes his three-year contract in charge of the Red Devils.
