Leeds United have issued a statement after the Football League confirmed that Massimo Cellino's ban as the relevant person at Elland Road has been extended to 3rd May.

Cellino, who recently stood down from his role as president at Leeds to fight the Football League ban already imposed on him separately, had been prevented from running the Whites until 10th April.

However, he has now decided not to contest a charge against him relating to the disclosure of an Italian court's judgement against him. As a result, his ban will last until 3rd May.

Leeds announced via their official site: "The Football League, Leeds United and Massimo Cellino have settled the outstanding disciplinary proceedings relating to the club's non disclosure of the Italian Court's judgement regarding Mr Cellino as required under League regulations.

"The club and Mr Cellino have decided in the interests of the club, its players and supporters not to contest this charge.

"As a result, Mr Cellino's period of disqualification as a 'relevant person', as defined by the regulations, has now been extended from April 10 until May 3, the day after the conclusion of the 2014/15 league season.

"Mr Cellino's right to challenge the decision of the Professional Conduct Committee under Football Association Rule K is unaffected by this settlement."

Cellino is now effectively free to return to running Leeds after 3rd May, although he is still challenging the ban via taking issue with Rule K and indicated recently he would not return to the club until after that appeal was heard.

The Italian acquired Leeds last year and has already made his mark at the club, sacking three managers before installing incumbent Neil Redfearn.

At present Andrew Umbers is in charge at Elland Road as chairman.
