Liverpool are on the trail of 22-year-old Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello.

The Reds are keen to bolster their goalkeeping options in the summer transfer window, despite seeing Belgian custodian Simon Mignolet return to form between the sticks in recent weeks.

Liverpool are looking closely at options in Italy and have already been strongly linked with Genoa's young goalkeeper Mattia Perin.

Now, according to Sky Italia, Sportiello is also on the Reds' radar and they are actively exploring the option of taking him to Anfield at the end of the season.

Just 22 years old, Sportiello is a product of Atalanta's esteemed youth set-up and has become the club's number 1 between the sticks this term.

Sportiello has so far clocked up 25 appearances for Atalanta in Serie A in the current campaign, conceding 37 goals in the process.

He is locked down on a contract with the Italian side until the summer of 2019, although Atalanta may face a battle to keep hold of him if Liverpool come calling with a lucrative offer.

Atalanta currently sit just three points and one place above the relegation zone in Serie A and have lost four of their last five league games.
