Following their win over Leicester City last night, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has said that it was important for his side to get all three points after their recent losses.

The Citizens took on Nigel Pearson’s men at the Etihad Stadium yesterday where a strike in each half from David Silva and James Milner sealed a 2-0 win for the hosts, which sees them stay five points behind Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title.

Manchester City entered the match on the back of consecutive defeats, a 2-1 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League was followed by a defeat by the same margin at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

And Pellegrini feels that his side needed a positive result after their recent reverses.

“When you don’t have the result you need in the last match, the next game is very difficult and that’s why today it was most important to get three points but we dominated the game”, the manager was quoted as saying by the club site.

After conceding four times in their last two games, the Chilean expressed his pleasure at keeping a clean sheet against the Foxes.

“It was important for our team to keep a clean sheet – maybe we scored the second goal too late but we won the game.”

The win didn’t narrow the gap between the reigning Premier League champions, and Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, who won against West Ham United yesterday, remained five points clear of the Citizens.

And Pellegrini insists that his team’s focus remains on their own remaining games and they are not concerned by the result of their rivals.

“We are not thinking about Chelsea, just our team.

“Just to win our game, we can think nothing about what Chelsea can do.

“We have to think about performances and see at the end of the season whether they drop points or not.”
