Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will play against Manchester United on Monday evening, if he can pass a fitness test later today.

The Poland international custodian has lost his place in the Arsenal team for Premier League matches to the club's summer signing David Ospina.

However, Wenger is still keen to give Szczesny an opportunity to impress and it could come at Old Trafford on Monday night when Arsenal take on Manchester United in an FA Cup quarter-final tie, as the Gunners seek to continue their defence of the trophy they won last May.

Indeed, the Frenchman has confirmed that, if fit, the Pole will be handed a start.

"He has a test today. If he gets through that test, he will play on Monday night", Wenger told his club's site.

The Arsenal manager currently has most of his squad fit for selection, although defender Gabriel Paulista succumbed to a hamstring injury against QPR in midweek.

Nevertheless, Wenger accepts that competition for a starting spot at the Emirates Stadium is extremely fierce at present.

He explained: "We have a lot of competition going on in the team, especially up front – we have plenty of offensive potential.

"It makes every decision more difficult."
