Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is pleased with Ashley Young’s desire to perform in any role that he has been given to play this season.

After a below par season under former manager David Moyes, the former Aston Villa winger has been a key part of Van Gaal’s squad this term at Old Trafford and has been used in a variety of roles.

At the start of the season, the England international played as a wing-back in the Dutchman’s 3-5-2 system and has also played as a left-back in a few games for the club this campaign.

In the last few matches, Van Gaal has used him in his natural role as a winger and Young has again excelled, scoring the crucial late winner for Manchester United against Newcastle on Wednesday at St. James’ Park.

The Dutchman is pleased with the winger’s performances so far this season and said that his desire to perform in any role for the team makes him an asset for his squad at Manchester United.

“He is a player who wants to perform what you say. I think he fits good in my profile”, Van Gaal told MUTV.

“We have played also with wing-backs and I think that is his best position.

“Now I use him as a winger and he does a very good job. I am pleased with him.”
