Manchester United legend Paul Scholes, writing in his column for the Independent, has admitted that he will manage Oldham Athletic one day, but believes it is not the right time yet to take up the job.

Since the departure of their former boss Lee Johnson to fellow League One side Barnsley last month, the Latics have been trying to woo Scholes to take up the job at Boundary Park.

Club chairman Simon Corney has also expressed a desire to see Scholes in the dugout at Oldham and believes the former England man will one day take up the job in the future.

The former Manchester United midfielder admits that while he has said in the past that he doesn’t see himself in a coaching role, he feels that he will eventually become a manager one day.

“It is no secret that Oldham Athletic were interested in appointing me as Lee Johnson’s successor at the club, and it was an offer that really tempted me”, Scholes explained.

“I will be a manager one day.

“I have come to see that over the last eight months, although I know that I first said that I did not see my future in coaching.”

The 40-year-old also feels that he will one day take up the job at Boundary Park as he loves the club and has been a fan of them since his childhood. However, he also added that he didn’t accept the offer from Corney as he feels the time is not right for him to become the manager at Oldham.

“And one day I believe that I will manage Oldham, the club that my dad supports and who are very close to my heart. They are a really good family club who mean a great deal to a lot of people – myself included. “

“I just did not feel this was the right time.”
