Jamie Carragher admits that he loved playing against former Liverpool team-mate El Hadji Diouf as it meant he could kick him.

Diouf was snapped up for Liverpool after the 2002 World Cup, in which he starred for Senegal, by Gerard Houllier as he sought to push the Reds towards a first top flight title since 1990.

The forward disappointed though, failing to hit the heights expected at Anfield and was soon disliked by a number of the Liverpool faithful on account of his inconsistent performances.

Diouf was offloaded by Liverpool in 2004, initially on loan to Bolton Wanderers, before sealing a permanent exit from Anfield.

Carragher was never taken with the forward and actually relished the chance to play against him after he left Liverpool.

Asked who was the worst player he played alongside or against by Scouse Bird Problems, Carragher replied: "The worst has to be El Hadji Diouf.

"Actually, I quite enjoyed playing against him as you could kick him them – can’t kick your own players."

The 34-year-old left Bolton in 2008 to join Sunderland before then heading for Blackburn Rovers. He also spent time in the UK with Rangers, Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United.

Diouf currently plays for Malaysian side Sabah.
