Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is desperate for Jordan Henderson not to be compared to club icon Steven Gerrard.

In Gerrard's recent absence through injury, Henderson has taken the captain's armband and shone in the heart of midfield, scoring in Liverpool's last two games as they continue their good run of form and push to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Gerrard will be gone on a permanent basis in the summer when he leaves Liverpool to join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy. And Henderson is being put forward in some quarters as his rightful heir.

But Rodgers does not want such pressure heaped onto Henderson's shoulders.

"There is no comparison", Rodgers told a press conference.

"I think you should stop putting pressure on a young man.

"Just because Jordan takes corners, doesn't mean he's the next Steven Gerrard.

"Just because he shoots from outside box, doesn't mean he's the next Steven Gerrard."

Henderson has made 27 appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool so far this season, scoring four goals and providing eight assists for his team-mates.

The midfielder initially struggled at Anfield following his arrival from Sunderland in 2011; he was scooped up by former Reds boss Kenny Dalglish.
