Arsenal linked Lyon forward Nabil Fekir has opted to represent the French national team instead of his native Algeria, according to French daily L’Equipe.

The 21-year-old striker is in the midst of a fantastic season at Le Gons, which has attracted the attention of Manchester City and Arsenal, who are closely following developments in France.

Fekir has played for the French Under-21 side, but it emerged earlier this month that Fekir had opted to represent his native Algeria on the international stage.

However, it has been claimed that after a furious round of talks over the weekend, the forward has decided against playing for Algeria and has opted to play for Les Bleus in the international arena.

Didier Deschamps is believed to be a fan of the young forward, but it is believed that Fekir gave his word to Algeria coach Christian Gourcuff last week that he would opt for his native country. It is believed that the player became sceptical about his choice over the weekend and made a compete U-turn to choose France.

The Algerian FA are furious and are believed to have blamed Lyon for pressurising the player to choose Les Bleus instead of his native country.

Fekir has scored eleven goals and has provided nine assists for Lyon in all competitions this season. He has made a solitary appearance for the French Under-21 side.
