Leeds United youngster Kalvin Phillips has insisted that his confidence is sky high at the moment and he believes that he is quite close to making his senior team debut for Neil Redfearn's side.

The 19-year-old was an unused substitute for last weekend's 1-0 win against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium and is confident about making it into the first eleven very soon.

The youngster has been impressive for the Peacocks Under-21 team of late, having most recently managed to impress Redfearn while playing in front of him on Monday.

The academy product, who was also on the bench for his team's match against Sunderland back in January, is not though taking things for granted and will continue to work hard and address matters as they come as he looks to follow the path of so many youngsters at Leeds.

Speaking about the opportunity on Saturday, Phillips told his club's official site: "It was a massive a boost.

The midfielder also took time to speak about his interactions with assistant manager Steve Thompson, who has been telling him that he is not "a million miles away".

"I think I’m quite close. Steve Thompson has been saying that I’m not a million miles away so hopefully it will come soon.

"I just take it as it comes.
