Manchester United have been handed a blow in their hopes of re-signing Real Madrid and Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo who, it has been claimed, wants to move to the MLS after his contract expires in 2018 and has already picked a list of potential destinations.

Ronaldo has been the lynchpin of the Real Madrid side since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2009 and has been one of the most prolific goalscorers the world of football has ever seen.

While murmurs of him going back to Manchester United have always been doing the rounds over the last couple of the seasons, it is believed that the 30-year-old is not too keen to leave the Spanish giants soon.

However, with his contract expiring in the summer of 2018, Ronaldo already has plans in place for his future and according to Sports Illustrated the Portugal captain has his eyes set on moving to the United States.

After achieving almost everything in club football, Ronaldo wants to end his career in the relatively less competitive environment of the MLS after 2018. He is aware of his global fanbase and he believes he could play a crucial role on furthering football’s interests in North America.

While Ronaldo will not have a dearth of takers in the MLS, the player has set his heart on living in one of three cities – Miami, Los Angeles or New York.

Though Manchester United still want him to come back to Old Trafford, Ronaldo wants to follow in the footsteps of another famous former Red Devil, David Beckham, by moving to the United States towards the end of his career.
