West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has brushed aside talk of him taking over the manager’s role at Sunderland at the end of the season.

Sunderland sacked Gus Poyet earlier this week after a poor spell of results and handed over the reins of the club to former Rangers boss Dick Advocaat until the end of the season.

While Advocaat is charged with staving off the relegation threat, there is no news on whether the Black Cats will offer him a long-term deal if he succeeds in keeping the club in the Premier League.

With Allardyce’s contract with West Ham expiring in the summer, coupled with the grumblings of the fans about his style of football, there are rumours doing the rounds that fans might see the former Newcastle boss in the Sunderland dugout next season.

He also played for the Black Cats in the early 1980s, which might endear him to the Stadium of Light faithful despite him being a former Newcastle manager.

When asked about his rumoured move to Sunderland at the end of the season, the West Ham boss was quoted as saying by the BBC in a press conference this morning: “Pure speculation.”

West Ham will welcome Advocaat’s Sunderland this Saturday to Upton Park for a Premier League clash.
