Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has revealed that Adnan Januzaj's lack of playing time at Manchester United is the cause of him being dropped from the Red Devils squad.

Wilmots has chosen not to select Januzaj in his Belgium squad for forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifying matches against Cyprus and Israel, with the winger paying the price for featuring only sporadically under Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

The Belgian coach feels he has not had ample opportunity to assess Januzaj's form and has therefore been forced to drop the 20-year-old.

Wilmots was quoted as saying by the BBC: "I have no doubts at all about his quality, it's just that there's little chance to see him, for him to show that quality."

For Januzaj, being dropped from the Belgium squad is a new experience.

Since deciding to play for the Red Devils last April, the winger has been included in every one of Wilmots' squads, including for the 2014 World Cup last summer.

He has struggled for regular playing time with Manchester United this season however and was linked with heading out on loan in January.

Van Gaal blocked a bid from Paris Saint-Germain to take the Belgian on loan, but has failed to offer him the playing time he may have enjoyed in France.
