Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has refused to blame goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for their defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach yesterday.

The Ballon d’Or nominee allowed the ball to slip through his fingers for Gladbach’s first goal on the half-hour mark and again made a mistake for their second in the 77th minute.

It was Bayern Munich’s first home defeat in eleven months and though they are still ten points clear at the top of the league table, Guardiola was unimpressed with his men’s performances.

Bayern Munich stated the game without Franck Ribery, who is out with an ankle injury, and after just 24 minutes they lost Arjen Robben with an abdominal muscle problem. Guardiola feels though they could have played better after the break, he admits that his side missed their influential wingers yesterday.

“We started well and stopped them getting at us on the break”, Guardiola told the club’s official website.

“We tried everything but without Franck and Arjen it was tough. In the second half we played with too much heart and not enough head.”

The Bayern Munich boss gave credit to Gladbach for sticking to their plans and securing all three points. He insisted that his attackers were responsible for Bayern Munich’s defeat and not Neuer.

“Gladbach did very well. We didn’t lose due to Manu but because we had problems in attack.”

The German champions will take an away trip to the Westfalenstadion to face Borussia Dortmund after the international break.
