Celtic assistant manager John Collins has lavished praise on goalkeeper Craig Gordon for the stellar work he has done in the Hoops’ goal this season, saying that the Scotsman could play until he is 40.

Gordon landed at Celtic Park at the start of the current season following the departure of Fraser Forster to Premier League outfit Southampton. And the Hoops’ number one has enjoyed a remarkable season with the reigning Scottish champions.

The 32-year-old has been central to Celtic’s successful campaign thus far, which has seen them collect the League Cup and make it to the semi-finals of the Scottish FA Cup. Having taken a commanding five-point lead at the top of the table, with a game in hand, the Bhoys appear on course to win their fourth title in succession too.

And Collins feels that Gordon has played his part in Celtic’s campaign, insisting that he has been “an incredible signing.”

“Craig’s been an incredible signing”, Collins told the club site.

“In all honesty, he’s surprised and amazed everyone, not that he’s a great goalkeeper, but that’s he came back so quickly to what he was before after being out for over two years.

“From his first game, he has never looked like he has been away."

Collins feels that Gordon being 32 years old he still has time on hands to play several more years at the highest level and if he keeps performing the way he is, then the custodian could easily play until he reaches 40.

“He’s so calm, composed and is assured, and he just spreads confidence throughout the boys in front of him. He’s a great example on the training pitch.

“He’s always trying to get better and always watching videos of himself with Woodsy [Stevie Woods], assessing his performance and seeing how he could better.

“And that’s someone that is 32.

“Goalkeepers can go on 'til their 40, so hopefully he has plenty of years left.

"He is lean and fit and week in, week out, he plays to a very high standard.”
