Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has accused Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim of lying about his refusal to shake hands with the Portuguese.

Wenger’s side were knocked out of the Champions League by the Ligue 1 outfit in the round of 16 stage on away goals earlier this month.

Jardim refused to shake hands with the Frenchman after his side won their last 16 tie against Arsenal at the Stade Louis II and said that Wenger also refused to greet him after Monaco thrashed the Gunners at the Emirates in the first leg.

The Arsenal boss is furious with the allegations levelled against him and said that he did wait to greet Jardim after the match in England, but he was celebrating with his staff. He added that he later congratulated the Monaco boss after the post-match press conference.

“The images show that I waited for the Monaco coach to congraulate him after the match”, Wenger told L’Equipe.

“He was celebrating his victory with his staff, which was understandable, but I congratulated him later after the press conference.”

Though the Frenchman is disappointed with the lies that Jardim has propagated against him, he wishes Monaco luck in the Champions League quarter-finals.

“I am surprised and disappointed to hear such lies.

“However, I wish good luck for Monaco in the future.”

Monaco will take on Italian champions Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals next month.
