Leeds United youngster Luke Parkin admits he is encouraged by the message being given to the club's talents by head coach Neil Redfearn, who has dubbed them "the future".

Parkin has been in and out of Leeds' Under-21 side this season, but came off the bench yesterday to score the winner against Brentford, in a game which ended 2-1 to the young Whites.

He is hoping to have caught Redfearn's eye and is encouraged by both the words and the actions of the senior team boss, who regularly fields youth products Charlie Taylor, Sam Byram, Alex Mowatt and Lewis Cook in the first team.

"Definitely [I’m eyeing a first team chance]. All I can do, whether I'm starting or on the bench, is just work hard, try and score goals and try and impress", Parkin explained to LUTV.

Parkin also feels that in general it is a good time to be a Leeds player, with Redfearn placing the emphasis on bringing through young talents to strut their stuff in the senior side.

"It's great [to be at Leeds now]. Redders keeps saying that we're the future and we'll get in.

"People have been on the bench, like Kalvin [Phillips] and people have been in the squad and it's good. So all we can keep doing is keep going, all of us."

Leeds are next in action after the international break when they lock horns with Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road.

The club's Under-21s meanwhile take on Swansea City away from home on Monday 30th March in their next match.
