English champions Manchester City have denied making an approach for Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, according to ITV.

The widely admired Atletico Madrid boss extended his contract with the club until 2020 earlier today, delivering a blow to the hopes of the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, who were believed to be pondering over making a move the Argentine in the summer.

Manchester City were also believed to be tracking Simeone’s progress at the Vicente Calderon and there was speculation that they made an approach for him recently.

However, the English champions have made it categorically clear that they have never made an approach for the Atletico Madrid boss to replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad.

Pellegrini’s job at the club is believed to be under a cloud after Manchester City suffered a disappointing exit at the hands of Barcelona in the Champions League and their patchy league form has also increased the pressure on the Chilean.
