Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has expressed his happiness at Victor Valdes’ stint at Manchester United.

Valdes had been without a club after leaving Barcelona in the summer following the conclusion of his contract with the Catalan giants; he finally signed for Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United in the January transfer window.

At Old Trafford, the Spain international has been named understudy to David de Gea and the 33-year-old is still awaiting his Premier League debut, though he has made three appearances for the Manchester United Under-21 team.

Valdes, like Iniesta, is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy and the duo were an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side which won a hatful of trophies from 2008 until 2012.

Iniesta is pleased with his friend finding a team of Manchester United’s stature after the goalkeeper spent six months in limbo, recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury, following his departure from the Camp Nou.

“Valdes was an important member of the dressing room”, Iniesta told the Al Primer Toque programme.

“I'm really pleased that, after having had such a hard time with a number of things, he's back to feeling like a player again”, he concluded.

Manchester United are currently sitting fourth in the Premier League as they attempt a return to the Champions League following a year’s absence.
