Borussia Dortmund are ready to sanction Manchester United target Mats Hummels’ sale this summer, but only for a transfer fee of around €45m, according to Bild.

The German World Cup winner is believed to be Louis van Gaal’s primary defensive target and it has been speculated that Manchester United are ready to go the distance to take Hummels to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Van Gaal is craving a leader in his back four and the Dutchman feels that the Dortmund captain has the ability to provide leadership to a relatively young set of defenders at Manchester United.

Dortmund are aware of the strong interest from Manchester United in Hummels, but the club until now have been reluctant to entertain thoughts of selling their captain at the end of the season.

However, the defender is believed to be keen to explore his options after a tough season at the Westfalenstadion and the club are also coming to terms with the fact that they might struggle to hold on to Hummels beyond the summer.

While still reluctant to lose the 26-year-old, Dortmund are ready to sanction Hummels’ sale in the summer – but only for a transfer fee of around €45m, which would allow them to buy a quality replacement for their captain.

Van Gaal tried to sign the defender when he was at Bayern Munich and with Dortmund seemingly willing to let the player leave for a high transfer fee, the Dutchman is now ready to try his luck again at the end of the season.
