Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has been forced to withdraw from the England squad, suffering from hamstring and hip injuries.

The English FA made the announcement this evening, explaining that the 24-year-old left-back has returned to club side Tottenham after leaving the Three Lions squad.

As a result Rose will play no part in England's Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania this coming Friday.

He will also miss out on England's friendly against Italy three days later.

The development is a blow for Rose, who had been hoping for the opportunity to shine under Roy Hodgson and put his case for regular inclusion on the international scene. A product of Leeds United's youth set-up, Rose is still without a senior England cap to his name.

Rose has seen his performances for Spurs widely praised this term and is considered one of the best full-backs in the Premier League by many.

He will now have to wait for his chance to stake a claim for a regular squad spot with the Three Lions.

The defender has represented England at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level previously.
