Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn admits that Brazilian midfielder Adryan has lost his way at Elland Road and been caught up by a number of other young starlets at the club.

Adryan is on a season-long loan deal at Elland Road from Brazilian outfit Flamengo and landed at the Yorkshire giants amid much hype last summer, with club owner Massimo Cellino having worked hard to take him to England.

An administrative issue delayed his debut, but the midfielder started to show glimpses of stardust before Christmas, before then being dropped out of the first team picture by Redfearn, as he preferred solid Championship experience to guide Leeds up the table.

Adryan admitted recently he is not sure what happened, but Redfearn feels the youngster has lost his way and needed pulling out of the firing line, while other youngsters have now caught him up.

The Whites boss told BBC Radio Leeds: "Adryan is on one of these deals where it's a loan to buy. It is an expensive one.

"The boy obviously has talent and he's a smashing kid, loves his football, works hard every day. I think he's done well at times. I think if I'm honest he's lost his way a little bit and one or two of the younger players have caught him up.

"But he's a young guy. It's like any other young player, sometimes they go into the team and do their bit and it works for them and then they lose their way a little bit.

"And you've got to take them out of the firing line, get your arm round them and get them back playing to their potential again."

Redfearn also believes homesickness and not being sure where he will play his football next season have also contributed towards Adryan's dip in form.

"The boy is a long way from home and he's got this where he knows at the end of the season he might be here or he might not be here.

"There's no doubting his ability, but he's a human being and he's not playing as well as he has been playing in recent months."
