Thierry Henry hopes that Arsenal do not suffer a Liverpool-style meltdown and continue to consistently miss out on the English league title.

Liverpool last won the title in 1990, with few then predicting it would be their last as the Reds had been dominant throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Their lengthy drought has seen Manchester United surpass their record of 18 top flight titles, in what has been a time of title pain for the Merseyside giants.

Arsenal meanwhile last won the title in 2004 – and Henry, now retired, was part of the team that clinched the crown.

The Gunners have consistently come up short since and even though Henry is hopeful they will soon be able to end their drought, he is wary given what fate has befallen Liverpool and the fact that eleven years have now passed.

"If I told you in 1990 that Liverpool would not win a championship for the next 25 years, you would have thought I was sick in the head", he explained to L'Equipe.

"I don't want the same thing to happen to Arsenal.

"It's already been eleven years.

"This year we are not too far off. With the exception of the first leg against Monaco, they have been on a good run, but they without a doubt lost too many points at the beginning of the season.

"But I think that this group can win the title in the coming years."

At present Arsenal sit third in the Premier League table and seven points behind league leaders Chelsea, who have played a game fewer than Arsene Wenger's men.

Liverpool meanwhile are fifth and 13 points behind Chelsea.
