Juventus striker Alvaro Morata has thanked Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho for trusting in his abilities and for giving him starts in the first team when the Portuguese was in charge of Real Madrid.

Morata joined Juventus at the start of the current season from Real Madrid and he is enjoying a stellar inaugural campaign in Italian football. In his 31 appearances so far in all competitions, the youngster has scored 11 goals and assisted a further five.

The Spain international also scored in either leg of Juventus’ Champions League round of 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund to help the Italians qualify for the quarter-finals of the prestigious competition.

Morata’s performances this term have seen him linked with a move back to the Santiago Bernabeu, but the 22-year-old has so far denied reuniting with his former team-mates, preferring instead to continue with Massimiliano Allegri’s team.

However, the striker has thanked Mourinho for the part he played in helping him stake a claim for first team action and giving him a place in his starting line-up during the Portuguese’s three-year reign at Real Madrid from 2010 until 2013.

“Mourinho could have chosen some other player, but he chose me and I`ll be grateful to him for the rest of my life”, Morata told La Sexta.

The 22-year-old’s performances have seen Spain national team manager Vicente del Bosque call him for the country's upcoming international fixtures.

If selected, Morata will look to take his prolific club scoring form into the national team.
