France international Raphael Varane is not worried about his lack of playing time at Real Madrid and has accepted the challenge of keeping improving at the club.

Though he has seen more first team football towards the latter half of the campaign, the Frenchman mostly warmed the bench during the initial phase of the season.

There has been speculation that Varane is feeling frustrated with the lack of opportunities and there are rumours that he might be considering his future at the club.

However, the 21-year-old centre-half has stressed that lack of game time is not an issue for him this season as he is still a regular in the French national side that has helped him to maintain his match fitness.

Real Madrid have shown some patchy form in the second half of the season, when Varane has been more of a regular feature in the first eleven and the defender admits that he needs to keep improving on his performances.

However, the Frenchman has accepted the challenge and is hoping to set the bar high with his showings at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"I've played less for my club this year, but regularly with the national team which has helped me not to lose match fitness”, Varane told La Voix du Nord.

“I've been more involved in the second half of the season, but that coincided with a time when the team weren't doing so well.

"When you're part of Real Madrid, every day is a challenge, and I'm that sort of person, I need to set the bar high to keep progressing.”

The centre-half has made 14 league starts for Real Madrid this season and is expected to start for France in their friendly against Brazil later today.
