Former Roma defender Sebino Nela has asked his former club to try and sign wantaway Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira this summer.

The 27-year-old’s announcement last night that he will be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season as a free agent has sent his suitors on a mad scramble.

Arsenal have been keeping a close eye on Khedira and want to take him to the Emirates this summer on a free transfer, but the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also involved in the race for the German World Cup winner.

However, it has been claimed that Khedira has already agreed a contract to join Schalke this summer and many believe that that the deal has been kept under wraps until the end of the season, despite the player's denials.

Former Roma defender Nela believes the Giallorossi should also throw their hat in the ring for the midfielder, but added that the decision will ultimately depend on coach Rudi Garcia.

“The transfer is possible”, Nela told Radio Popolare Roma 103.3 FM.

“But then they have to speak with Khedira’s representatives and it would also require the consent of the coach.”
