Liverpool Under-21 manager Michael Beale has welcomed Lucas Leiva for his efforts in helping out the Reds’ youngsters during the ongoing international break.

Lucas has not been called up by Brazil national team manager Dunga, as a consequence the midfielder has decided to help out Liverpool Under-21s at Melwood.




Beale is happy to have the experienced 28-year-old amongst the Liverpool youngsters, saying that it is a pleasure to have the first-team regular helping out the aspiring Under-21s.

“Lucas has joined us and it's a pleasure to have him”, Beale told the club site.
 


“He knows a few of the boys; he gets on really well with Jordan Williams and the Spanish boys like [Pedro] Chirivella and [Sergi] Canos, he helps them along.”

Lucas played for the Liverpool Under-21 side last year against West Ham United and Beale feels that the Brazilian was outstanding in the match which finished 2-0 in favour of the Reds.

“He played for us last year along with [Mamadou] Sakho away at West Ham and he was outstanding.

“He trained for three or four days beforehand.

“He obviously wants to get his fitness to get back in the team and play an important part.”

Liverpool are currently lying fifth in the Premier League, five points adrift of fourth placed Manchester United, as the Reds attempt to continue their presence in the Champions League next season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will resume their league campaign against Arsenal on 4th April post the international break, in a game it appears they must avoid defeat in to keep their top four hopes alive.
