Roma are set to offer a new and improved contract to Manchester United target Kevin Strootman to secure his future at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Dutchman is out for the season with a knee injury and though Manchester United are believed to be interested in taking him to Old Trafford this summer, his injury record has been a concern for Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.

However, Roma still value the 25-year-old Dutch international and are keen to keep him away from the clutches of Manchester United at the end of the season.

Despite his recent trouble with injuries, Roma have complete faith in Strootman, who is slated to return to pre-season training in the summer, and are ready to put their money where their mouth is.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi are ready to offer a fresh contract extension to the Dutch midfielder until 2020, which is also going to increase his wages considerably.

Roma are also ready to discuss the prospect of Strootman becoming the club captain in the future. The Giallorossi are desperate to keep Manchester United at bay and believe the proposed measures should convince the midfielder about his long-term future at the club.

Manchester United are believed to be monitoring the midfielder’s recovery as Van Gaal is not ready to give up on his hope of signing the Dutchman this summer.
