Leeds United need to add genuine wingers to the squad, manager Neil Redfearn believes, pointing out that he feels they are well-stocked in other areas.

Redfearn has seen his transfer market ambitions thwarted of late, with the club refusing to sanction a series of loan signings the boss wanted to make.

Nevertheless, Redfearn has kept the Whites on track in the Championship and the club have every chance of securing a top ten finish, something the 49-year-old has set out as his target this season.

Conducting an interview with BBC Radio Leeds, Redfearn was asked if he had money to spend and the freedom to sign, what would he be looking to do in the transfer market.

And the former midfielder replied: "From where we are at the moment I think we look solid enough at the back.

"In my opinion I think we're exceptional in midfield. I think we need a different dimension in wide areas.

"We're strong and functional in wide areas and we've got goals there in Sam [Byram] and Charlie [Taylor], but they are coming to terms with changing position. We probably need some attacking width, some genuine attacking width.

"Lewis Walters can play that position, he's got pace. Aidy [White], if he was fit, has got pace and can go past people.

"We haven't got genuine wingers, what I would call out and out wingers", Redfearn added.

At present Leeds operate an Italian style system when it comes to player signings, with club owner Massimo Cellino and sporting director Nicola Salerno dictating transfer policy.

Redfearn is able to make suggestions, but does not have the power to ensure they are acted upon.
