Manchester City have asked Carlo Ancelotti to respond to their offer of replacing Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad by the end of next month.

The three-time Champions League winning manager is under pressure at Real Madrid following a poor run of results since the turn of the year and though the club president has publicly backed him, the Italian knows his job will be under threat if he ends the season empty handed.

On the other hand Manchester City have also started their search for a new manager as it is looking increasingly likely that they will finish the season without any trophies under the tutelage of Pellegrini.

It emerged earlier this week that the English champions have already initiated talks with the Real Madrid manager's agents over a possible move to replace the Chilean at the Etihad.

However, Manchester City want a quick reply and according to Spanish daily AS they have asked Ancelotti to respond to their offer by the end of next month.

Having won the Premier League and FA Cup double in the 2009/10 season with Chelsea during his two-year stint at the club, the Italian has a good reputation in England and Manchester City are keen to secure his services, but they also want to identify a possible successor to Pellegrini soon.

However, the whole saga might turn on its head if both Real Madrid and Manchester City finish their seasons strongly, in turn strengthening the positions of their respective managers.
