Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn says he has a great relationship with the club's sporting director Nicola Salerno.

The Italian deal-maker was brought to the club by owner Massimo Cellino and helps to drive transfer policy at Elland Road.

Salerno was key in Leeds' appointment of Slovenian tactician Darko Milanic as manager earlier this term, the Slovenian then being sacked to make way for Redfearn following a run of poor results.

The Italian was also instrumental in Leeds snapping up players from Serie A and Serie B clubs last summer.

Redfearn, who makes signing suggestions to Salerno, says that his relationship with the Italian is good and insists the sporting director is in full agreement with the approach he has taken with the side.

The Whites boss told BBC Radio Leeds: "Nicola has been the main person that I've dealt with on the football side and basically myself and Nicola have been put in charge of the football side.

"I get on with Nicola really well. He understands what the club is about, he likes what we've done, he really likes the idea that we're going in the right direction now.

"He's a good person to have about – but the man that makes the decisions obviously is Massimo", Redfearn added.

Leeds are shaping up for another summer of transfer business during which Salerno is expected to be a key figure at Elland Road.
