Former Germany striker Oliver Bierhoff hopes that Lukas Podolski is at a club next season where the manager has confidence in his abilities and at which he plays on a regular basis.

Podolski is under contract to English giants Arsenal, however moved on loan to Italian outfit Inter in the winter transfer window in search of regular first team football.

The German has struggled to impress at the San Siro though and Inter are not expected to push to sign him on a permanent basis from Arsenal at the end of the season.

For Bierhoff, it is vital Podolski is playing somewhere that he has regular first team football next term, combined with the confidence of the club's manager.

Bierhoff told German daily Bild: "Lukas must feel confidence in him, he is an emotional guy.

"When I heard that he was going to Milan for six months I was sorry. I know that it is not easy to switch clubs in January. Football is not the same in every country.

"I hope that he goes to a club at which he has confidence and the environment gives him a chance to play regularly.

"Going to a top club can mean having to fight with team-mates who want a starting spot. Lukas must feel part of a family and must be in a relaxed environment to do well."

Since arriving in Italy, Podolski has made ten appearances in Serie A for Inter, but has yet to hit the back of the net.

The German has though only completed the full 90 minutes on two of his ten Serie A appearances and was denied the chance to aid Inter in their Europa League campaign, which was ended by Wolfsburg, when left off the club's squad list.
