Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has lavished praise on midfielder Ander Herrera, explaining that the Spaniard has many strings to his bow.

The Red Devils snapped Herrera up last summer from La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao, but he has struggled to hold down a regular first team spot under boss Louis van Gaal, with Robson wanting the Dutchman to bring the best out of the Spaniard on a consistent basis.

However, when called upon Herrera has impressed and has gained a loyal following amongst the Manchester United fans – and Robson is one such admirer of the Spaniard's abilities and what he brings to the Red Devils.

"Ander started off the season well and he’s got a lot of energy", the former Manchester United captain told the club's site.

"He is always on the move, trying to close people down really quickly.

"He has got a lot of qualities really, it’s just getting them out of him on a consistent basis", Robson continued.

"But he has got that in his locker, maybe it’s just taken him and a few of the new signings time to adapt to the Premier League.

"He is quite good defensively and, when I watch him, I can see he has a lot of energy and he does like to get involved. What I like about him is that, when people are on the ball, he is always on the move to try and receive the pass."

Herrera has made 18 appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists for his team-mates as the Red Devils aim to finish in the top four this term to secure a return to the Champions League next term.
