Jordan Henderson has revealed he is looking to take his Liverpool form on to the international scene with England by increasing his goal tally for the Three Lions.

Henderson has improved his scoring rate for Liverpool in recent games, scoring three goals in the Reds' last four Premier League fixtures to become a potent threat getting forward from midfield.

The midfielder has never scored for England however, despite having won 17 caps for his country – and that is something the former Sunderland star is keen to change by becoming a regular contributor under Roy Hodgson.

Henderson is confident the situation can change and that he can score regularly for England if he keeps doing what he has been doing at Liverpool, but he feels he needs to get his first goal for the others to then flow.

He told the FA: "At club level, I’ve been doing the same things that I’ve always been doing for the team.

"Obviously when one or two [goals] fly in your confidence is high. That has been a real turning point and once you get one they tend to come.

"Hopefully I can do that for England – once I can score one I can carry on and get a few more.

"We have to take more responsibility in midfield in that sense, we can’t always rely on the strikers to score the goals, you have to chip in now and then."

However, Henderson feels he must not be fixated on scoring for the Three Lions, with simply doing what is best for the team the most important thing.

"At the same time I’m not going to get caught up on that, I just want to do what is best for the team – the most important thing is winning games."
