Jordan Henderson says he is taking a relaxed approach over a new contract being agreed with Liverpool, striking a confident note about committing his long-term future to the Reds.

Henderson is the current vice-captain at Anfield and has been tipped to take over the skipper's armband in the summer when Steven Gerrard departs for Los Angeles Galaxy.

However, by the summer his contract will have just a further year left to run and there has been speculation the 24-year-old could attract interest from other clubs.

Henderson though wants to remain with Liverpool and is confident his contractual situation will be hammered out in due course, something which means he is looking forward to remaining with the Reds for the long term.

He was quoted as saying by his club's site: "I love playing football for Liverpool and I want to be there for many years.

"In terms of my contract, I think everybody else will make a big deal of it but for me it's just letting my agent and the club deal with it and whenever it gets sorted, it gets sorted.

"All I want to do is my best for club and country. At Liverpool we've got fantastic players, real quality players and a lot of potential.

"We're a young team and I think there is great potential and a big part of us wants to be winners and winning trophies. I really feel we can do that."

Liverpool snapped Henderson up from Sunderland in the summer of 2011, but the energetic midfielder took time to settle at Anfield and saw his early performances criticised.

He has since become a vital member of boss Brendan Rodgers' starting eleven.
