Manchester City have moved into pole position for Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne after holding talks with his representatives, according to Belgian daily HLN.

De Bruyne moved to Wolfsburg from Chelsea in January 2014 after struggling to win the favour of Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian midfielder has flourished in the Bundesliga and as a result has been linked with returning to the Premier League, with Manchester United being strongly tipped as suitors.

Wolfsburg want to keep hold of the 23-year-old, but accept that keeping hold of the playmaker could prove tough if a lucrative proposal lands on their doorstep, while the player himself has conceded he would like to play for one of the world's biggest clubs.

Now Manchester City have firmed up their interest in De Bruyne and have held talks with his representatives.
