Fernando Torres says that Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is the best player he has ever played alongside and doubts that will change for the remainder of his career.

The Spanish striker played with Gerrard at Liverpool between 2007 and 2011, forming a fearsome double act that pushed the Reds forward and powered a title charge in one season under Rafael Benitez.

The partnership was split up when Torres joined Chelsea in 2011 for £50m, but the Spaniard had the chance to rekindle it yesterday when he turned out on Gerrard's team for an All-Star Charity Game held at Anfield.

And after the match, which ended 2-2, Torres was full of warm words for Gerrard, who he continues to rate as the best player he has ever had the pleasure of playing alongside.

"I've said many times that Stevie is the best player I have ever played with and I don't think I will play with a player like him again", Torres told LFC TV.

"He changed my game, the way I used to approach games, my ambition, everything.

"When he called me to invite me to the game, of course I would be there, I would do anything to be there.

"I know it's a very important day for him so this was the minimum thing I could do for him, to be with him."

Torres moved on from Chelsea to Italian giants AC Milan last summer, but linked up with boyhood club Atletico Madrid in the winter transfer window.

Gerrard meanwhile is set to call time on his Liverpool career in the summer when his contract expires. He has agreed to join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.
