Victor Valdes has insisted that he is content to play for Manchester United’s Under-21 side to maintain his match fitness.

The former Barcelona goalkeeper joined the Red Devils in January this year on an 18-month contract after spending a few months at the club’s training facilities, recovering from a serious knee injury.

David de Gea’s form between the sticks has made him indispensible for Manchester United this season and he has yet to miss a minute of first team football under Louis van Gaal.

Therefore, Valdes is yet to make his senior debut for the club, but he has made three appearances for the Under-21 side in the Under-21 Premier League since joining the club.

The three-time Champions League winner is content to be his compatriot’s understudy and stressed that he has no problem in appearing for the reserves as it has helped him to maintain his match fitness, which will help him should he gets to make his debut for the club in the remaining eight Premier League games.

"This is the way now", Valdes told the club’s official website.

"When you don’t play in the first team here in England, it’s usually better to play in the Reserves.

“It’s not something we do in Spain, but you must accept it and focus on your performance because it is good for your game rhythm."
