Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling admits that being linked with Arsene Wenger's Arsenal is "flattering", but he has vowed to do all he can to help the Reds beat the Gunners this weekend.

Sterling has put talks on a new contract with Liverpool on hold until the summer amid speculation he is assessing his options to leave Anfield if the right offer comes his way.

Arsenal have been linked with moving for the 20-year-old and Sterling concedes that seeing his name linked with the Gunners is head-turning stuff.

Sterling explained to the BBC: "Yes definitely, it's quite flattering [to be linked with Arsenal]. For me it's obviously quite flattering, but I just want to block everything out of my head."

Liverpool lock horns with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday in a match it appears they need to win to keep their top four hopes alive following a defeat to Manchester United before the international break.

And Sterling will be doing all he can to help Brendan Rodgers' men visit the Emirates Stadium and leave with three points.

"I just want to keep doing well playing football and in my next game – and my next game is against Arsenal and I'll be trying to do the best I can do", the forward added.

Liverpool currently find themselves sitting five points behind fourth placed Manchester United and have eight games left to bridge the gap.

The Reds qualified for the Champions League last season, but despite spending over £100m on new players last summer could not progress past the group stage.
