Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy is close to a first team return after participating in a friendly against Brentford with an Arsenal XI yesterday.

Debuchy has been a long-term injury absentee for Arsene Wenger’s side and he has been out of action after he dislocated his shoulder in a match against Stoke City in January this year, which required surgery.

After three months of recuperation, the Frenchman played his first match when he lined-up alongside Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Abou Diaby amongst others as an Arsenal XI defeated Brentford 4-0 on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old joined Arsenal from Newcastle United at the start of the current season and his injury marred season has seen him make only ten Premier League appearances thus far.

Arsenal have climbed to third in the table and are strong favourites to finish the season among the top four and thereby seal their place in next season’s Champions League.
