Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva feels that manager Brendan Rodgers has been good for the youngsters at the club.

Lucas, who has been recovering from a groin injury, has been training with Michael Beale’s Liverpool Under-21 side during the ongoing international break and he has been impressed with what he has seen at Melwood.

The Brazilian also feels that Rodgers has been good for the first team hopefuls from the Under-21 side and his tenure at the helm of Liverpool is good news for the aspiring Reds as the Northern Irishman puts his faith in the youngsters and is not shy of throwing them into first team action.

The 28-year-old recounted the debuts of Jordan Williams and Jordan Rossiter earlier this season to underline his point. Jordon Ibe has also been awarded five Premier League appearances this term.

"I think since Brendan came in, the young players have been getting a lot of chances, especially training with us", he told the club site.

“Jordan Williams and Jordan Rossiter both made their debut this season and there are a lot of other players that come in and train on a daily basis with us, so it's always good.

"We have some good players there, and I think with the way the club is moving, it's a great opportunity for young players now because we have an experienced group of players but also we have a lot of young players coming in.

"That gives them more hope to have a chance."

Liverpool are currently sitting fifth in the table, five points adrift of fourth placed Manchester United. The Reds will travel to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday where a win for Rodgers’ men would revive their quest for a top four finish.
